Volunteers Needed

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006
  • Alumnae Facilitators
  • Pro Bono Lawyer, Tax Pro for BASC
  • Nominating Committee

Alumnae Facilitators
A student program in the works: Two workshops—“Etiquette & Interviewing Skills” and “The Art of Networking.” These workshops will be co-facilitated by two Alums — one from BASC and hopefully one from ALAS — a CDO staff person, and a current student — likely a senior. Each workshop will be about two hours long. A “Mock tail” (no alcohol) Networking Party would follow the workshops. The event would close with a panel on "The Post Smith Experience." The event would run from about 1:00- 7:00 pm on February 17th. Contact Jocelyn Thomas,jthomas2@email.smith.edu, BSA Vice Chair, Mellon Mays Fellow, Common Grounds Committee, Ext. 6283, Box 8666.

Fall BASC Board Meeting

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Having just completed BASC elections, the new Board of Directors held their first Board meeting on Saturday, September 16. The theme was ”Revitalizing
BASC.”

A wide range of goals and suggestions were discussed including: a review of bylaws, constitution, structure, membership dues, regional chapters, sponsored events in cities where alumnae live; publish a quarterly newsletter, design a website, seek training in the College’s fundraising techniques and connect to students. Other topics discussed included a preliminary review of AASC’s new mentoring format, plans for a big reunion, co-sponsorship and planning for topical conferences with college and more.

This initial board meeting was unique — sans the normal rigors of Robert’s Rules. It was really a fact-finding mission and idea exchange session. Held in the Sophia Smith Sitting Room, new board members eagerly sought to know each other while listening and exchanging with guest visitors who had vital information to share. In attendance were: Sylvia Smith (Cookie)-Isabel ’74, Mary Ann Denton ’76, Geneva ‘Gigi’ Paul ’03, Aisha Williams ’04, and Janice Morrison AC ’03. Adia Hoag ’02 was unable to attend.

Angela Baldwin ’92, the BASC liaison for NAAC also attended. Guest visitors included Mentha Hynes, Associate Dean of Multicultural Affairs, Linda Charles ’74, AASC
Board of Directors; Carrie Cadwell Brown ’82, AASC Executive Director; Betsy Baird, AASC Associate Director.
