Purchase Tickets by April 3rd for BASC @ the Theater - We’re Doing It Again!

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Join Black Alumnae of Smith College theater enthusiasts to see “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” by August Wilson at The Belasco Theatre on Friday, April 17. We have reserved 30 Orchestra seat tickets for $65 (reg. is $92.50) and arranged a cast “meet & greet,” for the first official night after the preview.  First come, first served. Additional tickets will be purchased if there is interest. Please remit payment using this Paypal link by Friday, April 3rd.

This is a story within the story of the turn-of-the century Great Migration, when descendants of former slaves moved from the South to the industrial cities of the North, seeking new jobs and new beginnings. Among those on the move is Herald Loomis, who arrives at a Pittsburgh boarding house with his daughter in tow, and discovers amid the vibrant community there, a path from his lost spirit to a new life.

We look forward to meeting you there!

Please see original invitation for more information.

A document detailing and explaining the By Laws of Black Alumnae of Smith College Inc. as approved on January 15th, 2009 is now available.

Please encourage high school students to attend Simply Smith, Saturday, April 25, 2009.

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Simply Smith, Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is an opportunity for girls who are sophomores or juniors in high school and their families to visit Smith for a day.  Simply Smith will be the first campus visit for many of these students, making Smith the benchmark by which they will judge all other colleges.  We hope you will encourage the talented sophomores and juniors you know to attend.

As you tell young women about this preview day, you may want to share the following points with them:

•    Smith College is a vibrant and inclusive community committed to diversity;
•    Approximately twenty-seven  percent of the student body are women of African American, Asian American, Latina, Native American and Pacific Islander descent;
•    Smith takes their ideas and goals seriously and offers unparalleled opportunities for leadership.

Students who wish to attend Simply Smith may register online at www.smith.edu/admission  by April 18.

Invitations and posters offering this opportunity have been sent to guidance counselors at selected schools in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states and to educational agency directors across the country.

Please feel free to contact me, Lia Brassord, Assistant Director of Admission, at lbrassor@smith.edu if you have any questions about this program.
